MPERC ARR & Retail Supply Tariff Order for FY 2025-26 (MP Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Co.), Schedule LV-2.2 (Non-Domestic: shops, offices, hotels etc.), mandatory demand-based tariff for connected load >10kW, urban area (PRIMARY, https://portal.mpcz.in/upload_files/pdf/mperc_regulation/tariff_details/LT_tarrif/Tariff_LT_Year_25_26.pdf). Rural fixed charge is Rs.220/kW instead. Consumers with connected load <=10kW may instead opt for a sanctioned-load-based tariff: Rs.6.50/unit (fixed Rs.88/kW urban) if monthly consumption <=50 units, or Rs.8.00/unit (fixed Rs.144/kW urban) if consumption >50 units — that structure is a consumption-threshold block tariff (all units billed at one rate once the 50-unit threshold is crossed), which this schema's progressive-slab model cannot represent exactly, so the demand-based flat tariff is used instead as the representative figure.

MPERC ARR & Retail Supply Tariff Order for FY 2025-26, Schedule LV-4 (LT Industrial: processing/manufacturing units, cold storage, flour mills, ginning/pressing, dal mills etc.), demand-based tariff (mandatory for all LT industrial consumers), non-seasonal, urban area (PRIMARY, https://portal.mpcz.in/upload_files/pdf/mperc_regulation/tariff_details/LT_tarrif/Tariff_LT_Year_25_26.pdf). Rural fixed charge is Rs.211/kW instead. Consumers with contract demand up to 20 HP/15 kW get a 30% discount on both energy and fixed charges (not modelled here).

MPERC ARR & Retail Supply Tariff Order for FY 2025-26, Schedule LV-5.1 (Agriculture: pump sets, chaff cutters, threshers, lift irrigation) (PRIMARY, https://portal.mpcz.in/upload_files/pdf/mperc_regulation/tariff_details/LT_tarrif/Tariff_LT_Year_25_26.pdf). Fixed charge is quoted per HP and rises with consumption (Rs.67/HP up to 300 units, Rs.83/HP for 301-750, Rs.91/HP beyond); this file uses the first-tier value converted to Rs./kW using 1 HP = 0.746 kW.

Madhya Pradesh Tariff Structure Explained

Madhya Pradesh 1 Unit Rate

For domestic electricity consumers in Madhya Pradesh, the initial 1 unit rate starts at ₹4.25 per kWh for consumption within the first slab per monthly billing cycle.

Tariff Categories

The tariff schedule for Madhya Pradesh covers 4 consumer categories:

  • Domestic (Residential) — for households.
  • Commercial — for shops and businesses.
  • Industrial — for factories and manufacturing units.
  • Agriculture — for irrigation and farm-pump connections.

Fixed Charges and Other Charges

On top of unit energy rates, MPCZ bills can include:

  • A fixed or demand charge, based on connection parameters.
  • A fuel cost adjustment of ₹0.3/unit.
  • Meter rent, where applicable.

Electricity Bill Calculation

To estimate your Madhya Pradesh electricity bill by hand:

  1. Multiply your monthly consumption in kilowatt-hours (units) by the applicable slab rate for each band.
  2. Add the fixed or demand charge.
  3. Add electricity duty and any fuel cost adjustment that applies.

Or skip the arithmetic with our MPCZ electricity bill calculator.

Why the rate is not one number

MPCZ's domestic tariff is telescopic: each unit you consume is billed at the rate of the slab it falls into, not a single rate applied to your whole bill. Your rate rises from ₹4.25/unit at the first slab to ₹7.25/unit at the top — so your 50th unit and your 400th unit genuinely cost different amounts, and a bigger household does not just pay “more of the same rate”, it pays a higher rate on the extra units.

How MPCZ's categories compare

The same unit of electricity is not priced the same for every connection type. On MPCZ, the first-slab domestic rate is ₹4.25/unit, compared with:

  • Commercial starts at ₹7.10/unit (flat, all units) — ₹2.85 higher than domestic.
  • Industrial starts at ₹6.76/unit (flat, all units) — ₹2.51 higher than domestic.
  • Agriculture starts at ₹5.07/unit at its first slab — ₹0.82 higher than domestic.

Commercial and industrial rates are usually higher because they are not subject to the same cross-subsidy that keeps small domestic consumption affordable; agricultural rates are frequently subsidised the other direction. Each category's full slab table is above.

Worked example: a 200-unit monthly bill

For a domestic connection on MPCZ consuming 200 units in one monthly billing period, with a 2 kW sanctioned load:

  • Energy charge (slab-wise): ₹1,085.00
  • Fuel cost adjustment: ₹60.00
  • Fixed charge (₹20/kW × 2 kW): ₹40.00
  • Total: ₹1,185.00

That works out to ₹5.92 per unit on average — higher than the ₹4.25 first-slab rate, because the fixed charge and duty are spread across the bill. A different sanctioned load changes the fixed-charge line above.

Getting your connection category right

The category your connection is registered under — not how the premises is actually used — is what the DISCOM bills against. A few situations that catch people out:

  • A shop, home office, or any space used for business is normally billed as Commercial, not domestic, even if it shares a building with your residence.
  • The Agriculture category applies to irrigation and farm-pump connections specifically, generally subject to its own eligibility and sanctioned-load rules rather than a household's domestic connection.
  • Changing a connection's registered category, or its sanctioned load, is a request you make to MPCZ directly — this page and our calculator both price whichever category and load you select, they do not change what is on file with the DISCOM.

How often these rates change

This tariff schedule took effect 1 April 2025 and we last verified it on 29 August 2026. Slab rates and fixed charges typically move once a year or less, set by Madhya Pradesh's electricity regulatory commission in a tariff order; the fuel cost adjustment shown above is usually revised more often than the slab rates themselves, since it passes through changing fuel costs.

Before relying on these figures for a large or binding decision, check MPCZ's own published schedule:

Average rate versus marginal rate

The average rate in the worked example above is what your whole bill costs per unit. It is the wrong number for one decision: whether to run one more appliance. Because the tariff is telescopic, any extra unit you add lands on your top slab, not your average — see our MPCZ unit price page for that marginal figure and how it compares with the average.

How do I calculate my Madhya Pradesh electricity bill online?

Use our dedicated MPCZ bill calculator — enter your units consumed and connection type for an itemised, slab-by-slab estimate including fixed charges and electricity duty.

Why is my Madhya Pradesh electricity bill higher than the energy charges alone?

In addition to per-unit slab rates (energy charges), your bill includes other components such as fixed/demand charges, meter rent, a fuel cost adjustment surcharge, and electricity duty (tax).

How often are these electricity tariff rates updated?

Electricity tariff rates in India are typically revised periodically by the respective State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC). We update our tariff data as soon as new orders are verified — see the "last verified" date on each category card above.
