TERC/TSECL confirmed energy charges are UNCHANGED for FY2025-26 (per tripurainfo.com: 'TSECL Keeps Power Tariff Unchanged for FY 2025-26'). Fixed charge updated to the new uniform Rs 18/kW/month for commercial consumers introduced in the tariff restructuring effective November 1, 2025 (per indiatodayne.in), superseding the old per-connection fees (Rs 35/55/75). SOURCED (secondary/primary-adjacent) — TSECL Tariff Order FY2024-25, Annexure 2, Industrial category 'Above 5 to 20 HP: All units' tier (used as representative small/medium LT industrial connection): Rs 7.83/unit, fixed Rs 65/kW/month. TERC/TSECL confirmed energy charges unchanged for FY2025-26 (tripurainfo.com); the November 2025 fixed-charge restructuring reported by indiatodayne.in was specific to domestic and commercial categories only, so the FY2024-25 industrial fixed charge is retained here. Other industrial HP tiers not modelled: Up to 5HP (Rs 6.54-7.01/unit, fixed Rs 40-45/kW), Above 20-100HP (Rs 7.98/unit, fixed Rs 85/kW), Above 100HP (Rs 7.99/unit, fixed Rs 100/kW). SOURCED (secondary/primary-adjacent) — TSECL Tariff Order FY2024-25, Annexure 2, Irrigation category 'Up to 5 H.P.: All units' tier: Rs 5.72/unit (before Government subsidy), fixed Rs 45/kW/month. TERC/TSECL confirmed energy charges unchanged for FY2025-26 (tripurainfo.com). This is the approved pre-subsidy tariff; a Government of Tripura subsidy of Rs 1.40/unit reduces the actual payable rate to Rs 4.32/unit in the source order, but that subsidy is not modelled here (consistent with how other categories in this dataset use the approved gross tariff rate). 'Above 5 H.P.' tier (Rs 6.88/unit, fixed Rs 80/kW) not modelled. Source: https://tsecl.in/sites/default/files/2024-09/Tariff_Schedule_for_FY_2024-25.pdf.

Tripura Tariff Structure Explained

Tripura 1 Unit Rate

For domestic electricity consumers in Tripura, the initial 1 unit rate starts at ₹0.00 per kWh for consumption within the first slab per monthly billing cycle.

Tariff Categories

The tariff schedule for Tripura covers 4 consumer categories:

  • Domestic (Residential) — for households.
  • Commercial — for shops and businesses.
  • Industrial — for factories and manufacturing units.
  • Agriculture — for irrigation and farm-pump connections.

Fixed Charges and Other Charges

On top of unit energy rates, TSECL bills can include:

  • A fixed or demand charge, based on connection parameters.
  • A state electricity duty of 5%.
  • A fuel cost adjustment of ₹0.2/unit.
  • Meter rent, where applicable.

Electricity Bill Calculation

To estimate your Tripura electricity bill by hand:

  1. Multiply your monthly consumption in kilowatt-hours (units) by the applicable slab rate for each band.
  2. Add the fixed or demand charge.
  3. Add electricity duty and any fuel cost adjustment that applies.

Or skip the arithmetic with our TSECL electricity bill calculator.

Why the rate is not one number

TSECL's domestic tariff is telescopic: each unit you consume is billed at the rate of the slab it falls into, not a single rate applied to your whole bill. Your rate rises from ₹0.00/unit at the first slab to ₹6.00/unit at the top — so your 50th unit and your 400th unit genuinely cost different amounts, and a bigger household does not just pay “more of the same rate”, it pays a higher rate on the extra units.

How TSECL's categories compare

The same unit of electricity is not priced the same for every connection type. On TSECL, the first-slab domestic rate is ₹0.00/unit, compared with:

  • Commercial starts at ₹7.37/unit at its first slab — ₹7.37 higher than domestic.
  • Industrial starts at ₹7.83/unit (flat, all units) — ₹7.83 higher than domestic.
  • Agriculture starts at ₹5.72/unit (flat, all units) — ₹5.72 higher than domestic.

Commercial and industrial rates are usually higher because they are not subject to the same cross-subsidy that keeps small domestic consumption affordable; agricultural rates are frequently subsidised the other direction. Each category's full slab table is above.

Worked example: a 200-unit monthly bill

For a domestic connection on TSECL consuming 200 units in one monthly billing period, with a 2 kW sanctioned load:

  • Energy charge (slab-wise): ₹400.00
  • Fuel cost adjustment: ₹40.00
  • Fixed charge (₹16/kW × 2 kW): ₹32.00
  • Electricity duty (5%): ₹20.00
  • Total: ₹492.00

That works out to ₹2.46 per unit on average — higher than the ₹0.00 first-slab rate, because the fixed charge and duty are spread across the bill. A different sanctioned load changes the fixed-charge line above.

Getting your connection category right

The category your connection is registered under — not how the premises is actually used — is what the DISCOM bills against. A few situations that catch people out:

  • A shop, home office, or any space used for business is normally billed as Commercial, not domestic, even if it shares a building with your residence.
  • The Agriculture category applies to irrigation and farm-pump connections specifically, generally subject to its own eligibility and sanctioned-load rules rather than a household's domestic connection.
  • Changing a connection's registered category, or its sanctioned load, is a request you make to TSECL directly — this page and our calculator both price whichever category and load you select, they do not change what is on file with the DISCOM.

How often these rates change

This tariff schedule took effect 1 November 2025 and we last verified it on 29 August 2026. Slab rates and fixed charges typically move once a year or less, set by Tripura's electricity regulatory commission in a tariff order; the fuel cost adjustment shown above is usually revised more often than the slab rates themselves, since it passes through changing fuel costs.

Before relying on these figures for a large or binding decision, check TSECL's own published schedule:

Average rate versus marginal rate

The average rate in the worked example above is what your whole bill costs per unit. It is the wrong number for one decision: whether to run one more appliance. Because the tariff is telescopic, any extra unit you add lands on your top slab, not your average — see our TSECL unit price page for that marginal figure and how it compares with the average.
