Detailed Charges

Fixed Charge₹174.26/kW of sanctioned load
Fuel Cost Adjustment₹0.15/unit

PRIMARY — same UPERC order, Annexure-I, LMV-5 'Small Power for Private Tube Wells/Pumping Sets for Irrigation Purposes', section (B) 'Urban Schedule, Metered Supply', tariff excluding cross-subsidy adjustment: Rs 130/BHP/month fixed (converted here to ≈Rs 174.26/kW using 1 BHP = 0.746 kW, per this dataset's convention for BHP-billed categories), Rs 6.50/kWh energy. UPPCL's internal cross-subsidy adjustment reduces the actual payable energy rate to Rs 6.00/kWh (not modelled). IMPORTANT CAVEAT: most UP private tubewell connections are billed under the heavily Government-of-UP-subsidized Rural Schedule, where the final payable rate is only Rs 70/BHP/month fixed + Rs 2.00/kWh energy (before subsidy: Rs 775/BHP + Rs 6.50/kWh) — that rural/subsidized schedule is NOT modelled here, so this entry will significantly overstate bills for typical rural agricultural consumers. Uttar Pradesh Tariff Structure Explained

Uttar Pradesh 1 Unit Rate

For domestic electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh, the initial 1 unit rate starts at ₹5.50 per kWh for consumption within the first slab per monthly billing cycle.

Tariff Categories

The tariff schedule for Uttar Pradesh covers 4 consumer categories:

  • Domestic (Residential) — for households.
  • Commercial — for shops and businesses.
  • Industrial — for factories and manufacturing units.
  • Agriculture — for irrigation and farm-pump connections.

Fixed Charges and Other Charges

On top of unit energy rates, UPPCL bills can include:

  • A fixed or demand charge, based on connection parameters.
  • A state electricity duty of 5%.
  • A fuel cost adjustment of ₹0.15/unit.
  • Meter rent, where applicable.

Electricity Bill Calculation

To estimate your Uttar Pradesh electricity bill by hand:

  1. Multiply your monthly consumption in kilowatt-hours (units) by the applicable slab rate for each band.
  2. Add the fixed or demand charge.
  3. Add electricity duty and any fuel cost adjustment that applies.

Or skip the arithmetic with our UPPCL electricity bill calculator.

Why the rate is not one number

UPPCL's domestic tariff is telescopic: each unit you consume is billed at the rate of the slab it falls into, not a single rate applied to your whole bill. Your rate rises from ₹5.50/unit at the first slab to ₹7.00/unit at the top — so your 50th unit and your 400th unit genuinely cost different amounts, and a bigger household does not just pay “more of the same rate”, it pays a higher rate on the extra units.

How UPPCL's categories compare

The same unit of electricity is not priced the same for every connection type. On UPPCL, the first-slab domestic rate is ₹5.50/unit, compared with:

  • Commercial starts at ₹7.50/unit at its first slab — ₹2.00 higher than domestic.
  • Industrial starts at ₹7.30/unit (flat, all units) — ₹1.80 higher than domestic.
  • Agriculture starts at ₹6.50/unit (flat, all units) — ₹1.00 higher than domestic.

Commercial and industrial rates are usually higher because they are not subject to the same cross-subsidy that keeps small domestic consumption affordable; agricultural rates are frequently subsidised the other direction. Each category's full slab table is above.

Worked example: a 200-unit monthly bill

For a domestic connection on UPPCL consuming 200 units in one monthly billing period, with a 2 kW sanctioned load:

  • Energy charge (slab-wise): ₹1,125.00
  • Fuel cost adjustment: ₹30.00
  • Fixed charge (₹110/kW × 2 kW): ₹220.00
  • Electricity duty (5%): ₹56.25
  • Total: ₹1,451.25

That works out to ₹7.26 per unit on average — higher than the ₹5.50 first-slab rate, because the fixed charge and duty are spread across the bill. A different sanctioned load changes the fixed-charge line above.

Getting your connection category right

The category your connection is registered under — not how the premises is actually used — is what the DISCOM bills against. A few situations that catch people out:

  • A shop, home office, or any space used for business is normally billed as Commercial, not domestic, even if it shares a building with your residence.
  • The Agriculture category applies to irrigation and farm-pump connections specifically, generally subject to its own eligibility and sanctioned-load rules rather than a household's domestic connection.
  • Changing a connection's registered category, or its sanctioned load, is a request you make to UPPCL directly — this page and our calculator both price whichever category and load you select, they do not change what is on file with the DISCOM.

How often these rates change

This tariff schedule took effect 1 April 2025 and we last verified it on 29 August 2026. Slab rates and fixed charges typically move once a year or less, set by Uttar Pradesh's electricity regulatory commission in a tariff order; the fuel cost adjustment shown above is usually revised more often than the slab rates themselves, since it passes through changing fuel costs.

Before relying on these figures for a large or binding decision, check UPPCL's own published schedule:

Average rate versus marginal rate

The average rate in the worked example above is what your whole bill costs per unit. It is the wrong number for one decision: whether to run one more appliance. Because the tariff is telescopic, any extra unit you add lands on your top slab, not your average — see our UPPCL unit price page for that marginal figure and how it compares with the average.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the latest electricity tariff rates in Uttar Pradesh?

The latest verified tariff rates for Uttar Pradesh are structured by connection category (Domestic (Residential), Commercial, Industrial and Agriculture) as shown in the tables above, sourced from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL)'s published tariff schedule effective 1 April 2025.

How do I calculate my Uttar Pradesh electricity bill online?

Use our dedicated UPPCL bill calculator — enter your units consumed and connection type for an itemised, slab-by-slab estimate including fixed charges and electricity duty.

Why is my Uttar Pradesh electricity bill higher than the energy charges alone?

In addition to per-unit slab rates (energy charges), your bill includes other components such as fixed/demand charges, meter rent, a fuel cost adjustment surcharge, and electricity duty (tax).

How often are these electricity tariff rates updated?

Electricity tariff rates in India are typically revised periodically by the respective State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC). We update our tariff data as soon as new orders are verified — see the "last verified" date on each category card above.

What is the price of 1 unit of electricity in Uttar Pradesh?

The rate for the first slab of Domestic electricity in Uttar Pradesh is ₹5.50 per unit. This rate may increase as consumption moves into higher slabs — see the Domestic (Residential) table above for the full slab structure.

Does UPPCL offer a separate tariff for Commercial or Industrial connections?

Yes — see the Commercial, Industrial and Agriculture categories above for their own slab rates and fixed charges, distinct from the Domestic tariff.
